IT has been an amazing few days in the life of Comic Elder — the comedian we have all fallen in love with.
We saw him being given a brand new truck by President Mnangagwa and then he received US$150,000 from businessman and philanthropist Wicknell Chivayo for him to build a house.
He has also been given something close to the Freedom of the City of Harare after he was added on the exclusive list of people who do not have to pay parking fees in the capital.
Yesterday, we saw Comic Elder and his parents being given free medical treatment and consultations by Pacific 24Hr Hospital.
This remarkable initiative grants Comic Elder a decade of complimentary access to free medical consultations, emergency care and general health services, while his parents will enjoy similar benefits for 12 months.
Dr Michael Mandaza, the hospital director, said this offer reflects their commitment to celebrating individuals who uplift their communities.
He said Comic Elder was one of Zimbabwe’s most beloved social media influencers and the comedian has a special gift that goes beyond making people laugh.
He highlighted the importance of recognising local talent, noting and he said Comic Elder has kept the nation smiling through tough times, using his creativity and humour.
Dr Mandaza said at Pacific 24Hr Hospital they believe laughter is medicine and those who provide it deserve the very best care in return.
He said the partnership will see his medical facility supporting Comic Elder’s journey and also ensuring that he and his loved ones are cared for when it matters.
This is huge and shows that there is now an appreciation that comedians like Comic Elder deserve to be honoured for the good work they are doing just to keep us laughing despite the challenges we are facing as a nation.
It’s a powerful acknowledgement that this is a serious industry that needs to be supported and is a giant step in the right direction.
We have a duty as a nation to support our own entertainers and Comic Elder has shown that he is a cut above the rest and we are happy that he is getting due rewards for his hard work.
He has shown that you can thrive as a comedian even when you just keep your work simple which appeals to all ages.
Here is a simple young man who appears like the boy next door, dressed in simple clothes and carrying his bag and with a gift to entertain.
We don’t hear him use vulgar words like others who have seemingly perfected the art of insulting others and hoping that this type of line appeals to people.
Our readers of a certain age fondly remember Mukadota —a simple man who specialised in simple jokes and made all of them laugh.
Years after his death, many still speak about Mukadota as someone who made a big impact in their lives.
Now, the show belongs to Comic Elder and we are happy that he is reaping the rewards for his amazing talent.
