THE appointment of Sihlangu Dlodlo as the new Highlanders chief executive officer is crucial for a prominent football club like Bosso. Decision-making can be the difference between success and failure and it is, therefore, essential that Dlodlo is given full executive powers to oversee operations and implement necessary changes to ensure the success of the club.
Unfortunately, interference from the executive committee and the board can be a major obstacle in the club’s progress. Past experiences have shown that such interference hinders the effective running of the club and ultimately leads to failure. Therefore, Dlodlo must be granted full executive powers without any restriction or impediments.
Dlodlo has been entrusted with the position to carry out a broad range of activities that can influence Bosso’s performance on and off the field. However, for Dlodlo to perform optimally, he must have the autonomy to make critical decisions in line with his vision and ambitions for the club. These actions will not be possible if the executive or board intervenes regularly.
Empowering him means granting him access to the essential resources he needs to operate the club effectively. For example, Dlodlo must be given powers to make critical decisions on hiring or firing, scouting and player recruitment, merchandising and finance. These are critical to the success of the club and he must have full control over these aspects and not be impeded by the executive or board members pulling in different directions.
Giving full executive powers to the CEO also ensures that the club’s long-term goals are achieved. Dlodlo can have a clear vision and map out strategies on how to achieve those goals, but may not be able to implement them if he does not have full decision-making authority. Another benefit of giving full executive powers to him is that it prevents any possible friction that might arise between the different decision-making bodies. Having a harmonious working relationship between different departments in the club is vital for success. If the board or executive objects to the CEO’s decisions on critical matters, conflicts and friction may arise, negatively impacting the club’s performance. Therefore, it is imperative that Dlodlo is given complete control to prevent such situations from arising.
By giving him full executive powers, he can make decisive decisions regarding the critical aspects of running Bosso. It also guarantees that he can make decisions that align with the club’s long-term goals without any hurdles or interference. Most importantly, it will ensure that Highlanders can operate harmoniously, with no friction between different decision-making bodies. We, therefore, urge the board and executive to grant Dlodlo full control, unencumbered by any limitations or impediments, to maximise the success of Highlanders.
