THE Mill Magazine says “Artistic expression transcends recorded time. Since the first days humans walked the earth, artistic expression has been an important part of our existence. In modern times, in our era, the arts have been proven to have positive effects on students, children, and adults. Some of these beneficial effects are not so obvious. Art is culture, expression, freedom, beauty, pain, sadness, and happiness.”
The magazine further urges people to support arts, which helps connect citizens of all walks of life through artistic expression.
“Art councils directly contribute to making a community richer and a more vibrant place to live, work, learn, and play. It strives to deepen and enrich the culture; helping connect citizens from all walks of life through artistic expression. Around the country, numerous arts councils are busily staying funded, representing local culture and making a case for the importance of the arts. Culture truly matters to the human experience and continues to be recorded through varied forms of artistic expression.”
Arts in the country and Bulawayo, in particular, is at the centre of people’s way of life, culture, and heritage. The contribution to the arts sector by stakeholders and the Bulawayo City Council cannot be overemphasised. We take this opportunity to congratulate Lady Tshawe, real name Nomashawekazi Damasane, who was recently appointed Arts, Culture, and Heritage Officer of the Bulawayo City Council (BCC).
Tshawe who has a diverse background including roles as an actress, performing artiste, musician, curator and arts administrator within the arts sector, was appointed after the vacancy was advertised in December last year. We have no doubt that Tshawe has the capacity to deliver and make the council a key player in the development of the arts in the country.
Lady Tshawe (34) is a musician, poet, writer, dancer, actress, and creative genius who occupies a well-deserved and visible space in the galaxy of the local artistic stars. She has many artistic masterpieces under her name in various circles and she has also collaborated with many other seasoned artists including Albert Nyathi, Tariro Negitare, and Prudence Katomani-Mbofana, among others.
