COMMENT: Zimbabwe’s march to prosperity: A testament to visionary leadership

AS Zimbabwe continues its journey towards achieving Vision 2030, the country’s transformative achievements in mining, agriculture and infrastructure development under the Second Republic are a shining testament to the visionary leadership of President Mnangagwa.

Guided by the National Development Strategy (NDS1), Zimbabwe has made significant strides in various socio-economic sectors, positioning itself on a path to modernity and improving the livelihoods of its citizens. The pro-development policies implemented by the Government have not only enhanced the country’s attractiveness to foreign investments but also rejuvenated domestic business confidence across economic sectors.

The mining sector, in particular, has recorded remarkable growth, contributing 18 percent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and accounting for 75 percent of Zimbabwe’s exports. With an expected jump to 90 percent capacity utilisation in 2025, the sector’s resilience is evident.

The growth of gold output, especially from artisanal and small-scale miners, has been impressive, with the Government periodically reviewing incentives to ensure win-win benefits.

Agriculture, another vital sector, has also witnessed noticeable growth, surpassing pre-land reform productions in wheat and tobacco farming.

The Agriculture Food Systems and Transformation Strategy has guaranteed national food security and nutrition.

The expected bumper winter wheat harvest and growth milestones in the horticulture sector are a testament to the sector’s potential.

Infrastructure development has not been left behind, with ongoing construction and maintenance of national road networks. Key roads such as Beitbridge-Bulawayo-Victoria Falls and Harare-Chirundu are being upgraded, facilitating trade and economic growth.

President Mnangagwa’s leadership has been instrumental in driving these achievements.

His commitment to unity, peace and development was reiterated during the 21st Zanu-PF National People’s Conference in Bulawayo.

The conference’s theme, “Industrialise and Modernise Towards the Attainment of Vision 2030,” reflects the party’s dedication to transforming lives and achieving the upper middle-income economy target.

Zanu-PF Secretary-General Dr Obert Mpofu described the conference as highly successful, commending delegates for producing people-centric policies.

The party’s focus on improving lives and implementing conference resolutions to meet Vision 2030 targets is laudable.

Zimbabwe’s progress under President Mnangagwa’s leadership is undeniable.

As the country continues on its development trajectory, it is essential to maintain unity and collective resolve.

With visionary leadership and people-centric policies, Zimbabwe is poised to achieve prosperity and become an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
