A 33-YEAR-OLD man from Mahatshula South in Bulawayo was sentenced to 12 months in prison for fraud.

Mthabisi Ngwenya recently appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Evia Matura. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months in prison. However, three months were suspended for five years, on condition of good behaviour.

Another three months were suspended on restitution and the remaining six months were further suspended on condition that he completes 210 hours of community service.

The court heard that from March 18, 2023 to June 5, 2023, the victim, Bekezela Moyo (33) gave the accused cash amounting to US$640 and US$30, which was deposited on the supplied CBZ bank account for the processing of the complainant’s travelling visa to Poland.

It was heard that after receiving the money, the accused disappeared without fulfilling the agreement, only to appear in August 2024 without the visa and the money. The matter came to light when the victim reported the matter to the police, leading to his arrest at his homestead on August 31, 2024.Fraud
