A MAN from Harare has been sentenced to 210 hours of community service after being caught stealing car tyres from a parked vehicle at his neighbour’s property in Southlea Park.

Tinashe Muranda (26) was convicted of theft after a full trial before Mbare magistrate Ms Cathrine Madzivanyika.

Initially, Muranda was sentenced to two months in prison, but the sentence was later converted to community service at Tariro Clinic.

The court heard that on February 23, 2025, at around 7 am, the complainant, Tinashe Magawa, was returning home from the bus stop when he found his neighbour, Obey Masarakufa, with Muranda at his house.

Masarakufa informed Magawa that he had caught Muranda stealing a tyre from Magawa’s motor vehicle.

Magawa inspected his vehicle and confirmed that one tyre had been stolen.

Upon further inspection, he discovered that four additional tyres, which had been stored inside the vehicle, were also missing.  The total value of the stolen tyres was US$280, but only one tyre valued US$120 was recovered.
