The Sese community in Chivi continues to come up with new initiatives to develop their area in line with Vision 2030 after they mobilised building material for the construction of a police post at Sese Business Centre along the Harare-Beitbridge highway.
The community led by philanthropist and Mashwede Holdings founder Mr Alex Mashamhanda has already secured land and approval for the project from Chivi Rural District Council and the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
Presently, there is no police post at Sese with the community there dismissing a picture circulated on social media a few weeks ago purportedly showing a dilapidated Sese police station .
Mr Mashamhanda said work would start after the end of the current rainy season as everything, including construction material, was now in place.
He hailed the Chivi RDC and the ZRP for giving thumbs up to the project which he said would improve security of Sese villagers and their property.
The opening of a police post at Sese will help stem a growing tide of crime mainly cattle rustling with the nearest police base being at Ngundu Growth Point, about 40km away or Ngomahuru which is almost the same distance from Sese.
Sese Community Development Trust Secretary, Mr Musiiwa Musiiwa, said people in his area would continue identifying and implementing projects that engendered socio-economic development in their area.
He noted that waiting for the Government to do everything for the nation was not the best way to achieve the goals of Vision 2030.
Government alone would not be able to plug all the socio-economic holes throughout the country with citizens also expected to take the initiative to develop their own areas.
In Sese, the community has been implementing various projects to uplift the area.
Mr Mashamhanda has already spearheaded a number of community development initiatives in his birthplace taking a cue from President Mnangagwa’s rallying call that “nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” (A country is developed by its own people).
The initiative has already seen villagers electrifying Chikore Primary School in Chivi’s Ward 20. The electrification of schools is now enabling rural learners to use ICTs in their studies.
