Several companies have pledged to assist dendera musician Suluman Chimbetu to uplift Simon Chimbetu Wicklow School in Chegutu. The school was named after the late musician Simon Chimbetu in honour of his contribution to the area and Suluman has been assisting the community to raise funds for its development.

On Friday the musician held a dinner at Bar Rouge at Longcheng Mall as part of events to remember Simon.

Several companies including Alpha Omega Dairy, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and Orchestra Dendera Kings among others offered their assistance.

Businessman Phillip Chiyangwa gave Sulu a stand and said he has to utilise it for the benefit of the school.

“Ndakupa stand yakakura kuChegutu. You have to utilise it for the benefit of the school and the surrounding community,” he said.

Alpha Omega Dairy pledged to assist the children with food while ZTA promised to offer their assistance when the children travel on trips.

Former Orchestra Dendera Kings manager Trevor Jakachira said he would avail a football kit for the school.

Sulu said he was taking some of the proceeds to buy cement and bricks for the facelift of the school.

“We will organise an event and we will take some of the proceeds and buy cement and bricks for the school,” he said.

Officials from Multichoice could not reveal what they have in store but promised to extend their hand to the school.

Chese White Meats, a local butchery, said they would soon deliver 20 benches to the school.

Sulu publicist Joe Nyamungoma said it was an honour that companies have pledged their support to the school.

“Getting such support from the corporate world is encouraging and we want to thank them for their effort. With such efforts the school will develop,” said Nyamungoma.

If the companies’ promises are fulfilled then it will be a great relief for the school as it is in a dilapidated state.

Several people including Benjie Nyandoro of Jive Zimbabwe, the Chimbetu family and relatives were in attendance.

However, musicians from the Chimbetu family were absent though they later joined for the main celebrations held at Extra Mile Leisure Spot on Sunday.
