OWNER of Manicaland based timber company, Reolive Timber (Pvt) Limited, has appeared in court on allegations of duping another company, Feedmix, of timber worth $1, 2 million in a botched timber supply deal.
Nash Kunze appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court charged with fraud.
Kunze was not asked to plead to the charges when he appeared before magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi, who remanded him to December 17 on $5 000 bail.
The State led by Mr Anesu Chirenje alleges that sometime in September this year, Feedmix intended to buy timber and approached the Wattle Company, which did not have timber in stock during that time.
Feedmix then came across Kunze’s advert which said he was in a position to supply timber and they contacted him.
Kunze is said to have sent a quotation for $1 155 648 for the timber which Feedmix wanted. On October 15 Feedmix allegedly paid Kunze $1 287 200 after he indicated some changes in the bank exchange rate.
After the payment, Kunze allegedly failed to supply the timber and efforts to contact him failed since his number was no longer reachable.
It is said officials from Feedmix travelled to Nyanga and discovered that Reolive Timber did not exist at the supplied address.
