TWO employees of Brainscope Investments lost a staggering US$56 500 in company funds to armed robbers while on their way to the bank.

The robbery occurred when Yvonne Zulu (29) and the company driver, Simbarashe Chiinze (24) were intercepted by two armed men along Plymouth Road in Southerton, Harare.

As they neared the intersection of Plymouth and Melbourne roads, a silver Toyota Fortuner blocked their path.

Two armed men exited the vehicle, brandishing firearms.

One of the assailants quickly shattered the passenger side window, to gain access to the vehicle, and forcibly seized a bag containing US$56 500 that had been placed on the passenger seat.

In addition to the money, the robbers also searched Simbarashe and stole his black wallet, which contained personal identification card and US$1 500.

After executing the robbery, the criminals hastily returned to their vehicle and sped off.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident.

“We are investigating an armed robbery case in Southerton. The total value stolen is US$58 000, and unfortunately, nothing has been recovered.”

Police are urging anyone with information about the suspects or the incident to come forward as they continue their investigations.
