Competence-based curriculum to push socio-economic transformation

THE Primary and Secondary Education Ministry has upscaled supervision of enhanced effective implementation of the hands-on education model to support socio-economic transformation with emphasis now being put on research studies.

The National Association of Schools Inspectors and Directors (NASID) converged in Kariba for its annual conference where calls to push acceptance and teaching of competence-based subjects were amplified to the 360 educationists from across all the 10 provinces.

The conference also gave significance to research studies that speak to challenges and Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030.

Speaking on the sidelines of the two-day conference that ended on Tuesday at Nyamhunga Primary School in the resort town, the chief director of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs Wadzanai Nyanhongo said the applied research by NASID was going to help address challenges faced in the country.

Outgoing president of NASID and Mashonaland West Education Director, Mr Gabriel Mhuma said research was of paramount importance to the Ministry.

Guest speaker at the conference, Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Marian Chombo said the growth and development of Zimbabwe’s education system was premised on effective supervision and monitoring and evaluation of systems.
