DIAGNOSTIC X-ray operator turned film director, Edmore “Eddie Kasin” Kasinamunda, has vowed to continue investing in local talent.
Born and bred in Concession, Mashonaland Central, Kasinamunda established his media house in 2015 inspired by local dramas he grew up watching.
The media house has become a source of hope for aspiring actors in the community.
In an interview, Kasinamunda, who is also a musician, said he could not resist film-making.
“It got to a time where I figured out that everybody within my neighbourhood was doing music and they were surviving on that.
“I had a different opinion, hence opting for the screen. I wanted to carve a different path from everybody. Taking a different route unlocking potential,” he said.
His first production was titled “Ndaizivei”, a film inspired by true events depicting the harshness and reality of inheritance distribution among siblings.
“It’s a film about a king who had two sons, with one born out of wedlock.
“Upon his death, he left his entire kingdom to the stepson, instead of his biological son,” said Kasinamunda.
From then onwards, Kasinamunda never looked back as he came up with more productions, including “Tsoro yaDombo”, “Pahukama”, “Love Triangle,” “Undiona Kusviba”, “Jemedza” and Zviuya Zviri Mberi” among others.
To ensure that he uplifts creatives in the community, Kasinamunda roped in cast members from Concession and its environs.
“I take pride in my community and all my productions have used local talent. The initiative is to promote film as art. I nurture and groom from within us.
“We have managed to register our group with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, a big step not only for me, but for the community at large.” He, however, bemoaned lack of financial support, citing the need for the film industry to come together.
“If we had promoters in the film industry, then we would restore it to its former glory. This is not only applicable to my community, but the whole country.
“There is great talent in my community with no aid. By establishing an arts centre, we will be able to showcase new talent.
“By equipping the youths to be sustainable we are helping them refrain from idleness, drug and substance abuse, and other bad habits,” he said.
