Confidence is my biggest strength: Rumbi

Speaking through her chaperon, Salome Chari, ahead of the beauty pageant scheduled for last night in Xian, China, Rumbidzai said she worked hard and improved on her deportment and catwalk while watching her diet.
Although she did not make it into the top five of the Miss Tourism Queen Internet Popularity Queen, where Tanzania was the only African country to make the grade, Rumbidzai was convinced that her chances were still high.
“The programme has been quiet hectic, but guess what, the experience has been good.
“I am not really worried about what people are posting on the net, my chances are still very high. I know it is not really based on popularity per se, but the results are mainly determined by people who have access to such things as Visa cards and all.
“I am really geared up for the event and the whole experience was worth the wait,” she enthused.
More than 90 countries and other tourism regions were represented at this grand occasion, which is often used as a marketing platform for countries keen on improving their tourism brands.
Apart Zimbabwe, other African countries represented at the event include South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Namibia, Nigeria and Zambia, bringing the total number of contestants to 92.
However, it appears that Rumbidzai affectionately known as Miss Rue, is unfazed about the numbers.
“The more contestants, the more merrier the event and my confidence is my biggest strength.”
Rumbidzai left Zimbabwe on December 2, and was presented with a stone carving by renowned sculptor Dominic Benhura.
She recently graduated with a BSc Honours Degree in Sociology and Gender Development Studies at the Women’s University in Africa, and is a well-known socialite from her days of presenting two television programmes – Youth.com and Viewpoint – on ZTV.
Rumbidzai, who has been running tourism clubs in schools in the Midlands province, has so far toured Germany (International Tourism Bourse), Poland (ZTA Brand Launch), South Africa, Durban (ZTA Indaba), Brazil (ZTA Brand Launch), China (Beijing International Tourism Expo), Botswana (Miss Botswana Pageant Show) and Malawi (Ball Concert).
