Alternatively, in the event that Bizertin are walked over, if Caf decide that the match should go ahead even with the hosts not turning up for the contest, Egyptian giants Al Ahly would be given a ticket into the group stages. The Egyptians yesterday traveled to Tunisia, for the first leg of their second round match, even though the Cairo giants were not sure if their opponents will turn up for the contest on their soil.
Problems started when the Fédération Tunisienne de Football picked Club Africain to qualify to the last stage of the Tunisian League, instead of Bizertin, even though they both have the same points and are in second place in the league.
Bizertin official Amir Al Jezeri said :” We decided to freeze all our activities , will not play in Tunisia and in the African Champions League”.
“What happened from the FTF is not fair, we have the same points with Club Africain. They claim that there is cheating with match results and that not true.”
Al Ahly traveled to Tunisia yesterday for Sunday’s date against Bizertin although there were no guarantees from the hosts that they will go ahead and fulfil the match.
Al Ahly director, Sayed Abdul Hafez, arrived in Tunisia on Tuesday to monitor what was happening to Bizertin and their decision to withdraw from all football activities.
He told his team that things appear to have settled down after fights between Bizertin fans and the Tunisian police.
Head coach, Hossam Al Badry, announced a 21-man squad for their clash against Bizertin.
“Ahly do not intend to make any request regarding the venue of the game even with security concerns.”
Ahly have been efficient if unspectacular in this year’s competition so far and have won their last three league games.
They have not played since beating Kenyan side Tusker in the last round of the ACL a fortnight ago though.
