Confusion over Tawachera Arenel exit

ARENEL Movers club administrator Juma Phiri has confirmed that Philani “Beefy” Ncube will be in charge of the team when they face Herentals in a mid-week league encounter at Rufaro Stadium this afternoon.Phiri said Ncube will take charge of the team in the absence of Farai Tawachera whom they have suspended for allegedly failing to get positive results.

Arenel is bottom of the table with just one win in 19 games. The Premiership new boys have eight stalemates to their name and 10 defeats. They have amassed just 11 points so far. “It’s not true that the coach was sacked. Actually, he is on suspension. As you know results have not been coming hence we had to take some kind of action,” said Phiri.

Contacted for a comment, Tawachera appeared surprised at the club’s position that he is suspended.”Suspension? Then I have to pose this question to you? What are the procedures when someone is suspended? Aren’t papers supposed to be served upon the accused? I have no further comment,” said Tawachera.

However, Zimpapers Sports Hub understands Tawachera was called to a meeting on Monday night where they agreed that he should leave.

It is alleged management has not been happy with him continuously asking questions on how the club is being run. It is alleged that when the club bosses said they were suspending him, the coach opted to walk out of the club completely.

Arenel have gone to some of their matches without training or camping. Apart from that, players are also owed several months’ salaries.
Despite the club leadership previously and still insisting that the situation at the club is stable, the players and coaches have always sang a different tune. In his post-match interview after losing 2-0 to Yadah back in May, Tawachera hinted that there are problems at the club.
Tawachera revealed that they did not go for camp before the match, as it was called off on Friday evening, on the eve of the game. This was not the first time the team failed to camp as the same happened when they hosted FC Platinum.
It is a reversal of roles, Ncube was Tawachera’s boss at Bulawayo City in 2022, and when the former was fired Tawachera took over.
