A CONGOLESE student, who has been in custody since last Friday, was back in court yesterday where new details that he holds two passports, from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, were raised.

The State, represented by Takudzwa Jambawo in the bail hearing, argued that Fazani Mwila Lukwango (26), was not a suitable candidate for bail as he was a holder of two passports that would aid him in fleeing this jurisdiction.

He told the court that the Department of Immigration is verifying his identity and the status of his residency.

Lukwango’s lawyers on the other had argued that he is lawfully in the country and is a holder of a student’s permit.

Allegations are that in February last year, Lukwango went to Fantastic Phones Limited and took cellphones worth US$28 620 arguing that he wanted to deliver them to clients.

He allegedly lied to the company that he had sold the cellphones on credit to Taqbal Phones System and Cousthan Trading Limited.

He then entered invoices into the company system showing that Taqbal Phones Sytems bought cellphones on credit valued at US$17 601 which was yet to be paid.

He also entered an invoice in the company system showing that Cousthan Trading Limited bought cellphones valued at US$7 927,32 on credit.

Fantastic Phones’ representative Grace Mulerwa made follow ups and discovered that Taqbal Phones Systems does not exist. She further enquired with Cousthan Trading Limited who told her that they did not owe anything to her company. She then filed a police report.

Nothing was recovered.

The bail hearing resumes today.
