Congratulatory messages continued pouring in yesterday following President Mugabe and Zanu-PF’s victory in the just ended harmonised elections. President Mugabe is set to be inaugurated at a ceremony to be held today at the National Sports Stadium. President Mugabe garnered 61,09 percent of the valid vote cast and his party got more than the crucial two-thirds majority in Parliament compared to MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai’s 33,94 percent.
In a statement yesterday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas congratulated President Mugabe and said his country hoped for a positive future under his stewardship.
“Wishing Your Excellency all the success in achieving the goals of your people of prosperity, development and assuring continuous co-operation for the best interests of our two peoples,” he said.
President Abbas expressed hope that Palestine and Zimbabwe would consolidate historic relations that existed between the two countries.
Iranian ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Mohammad Amin Nejad congratulated President Mugabe and said the victory safeguarded the existing mutual co-operation between the two countries.
“Congratulations on the occasion of getting confidence of your constituency, also and especially of the massive participation of the Zimbabwean electorate in the recent harmonised election thereby mapping their destiny into the hands of the revolutionary party Zanu-PF, its leader and President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Robert Gabriel Mugabe on July 31.
“I would like to present my sincere congratulations to you and wish you all the success in response to the legitimate aspirations of your noble people,” read part of the statement.
Liberian President Mrs Ellen Johnson Sirleaf sent her compliments and said she wished Zimbabweans continued living in the prevailing peaceful environment.
“On behalf of the government and people of Liberia and in my own name, congratulations and best wishes on your re-election as President of Zimbabwe.
“We express the hope that the people of your great country, under your leadership, will continue to enjoy the blessings of peace, unity and prosperity,” she said.
President Johnson Sirleaf said Liberia was looking forward to working with Zimbabwe in the interest of African unity and solidarity and world peace.
Women’s Multi-Million Dollar Round Table president Ms Nyasha Chikwinya congratulated President Mugabe and Zanu-PF for resoundingly winning the elections which she said preserved the victory of war veterans who fought for the country’s independence.
“On behalf of all Zimbabwean women and our children, we congratulate an iconic leader for resoundingly winning the elections. It reminds us of 1980 where we took the country by storm.
“We are thankful to the President for what he did to us and we wish him good health. Many young people voted for him and it is a sign which shows the revolution is in safe hands.
“His victory and that of Zanu-PF shows the legacy of war veterans is safely preserved in the future,” she said.
The Black Consciousness Youth Movement said the victory sent a clear message to the world, especially the detractors, imperialists and proved beyond doubt that people still had confidence in the revolutionary party and the leadership.
Joshua Nkomo National Foundation chief executive Mr Jabulani Hadebe, sent his message on behalf of the foundation’s board of trustees for winning resoundingly.
“The Zanu PF victory is not only confined to the party but also a victory for Zimbabweans and for Father Zimbabwe.
“We thank President Mugabe for recalling and upholding the constructive spirit of national reconciliation that informed most of the selfless decisions on the late Father of the Nation.”
Mr Hadebe commended the Zanu-PF leadership for its relevance to modern day and future Zimbabwe given challenges in the post-colonial developmental State.
Harare lawyer Mr Simplicius Chihambakwe congratulated President Mugabe and said the victory was a result of the visible hard work he laid on the ground.
“The battle now should be directed towards economic revival. This is the cry of those who invested their trust in you,” he said.
