The Zanu-PF National Co-ordinating Committee is expected to meet this morning for an update on preparations for the forthcoming 6th National People’s Congress to be held in Harare next month.
This will precede a Politburo meeting expected to discuss guidelines of the Central Committee elections to be held at a date to be announced, among other issues.
Zanu-PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Rugare Gumbo said congress preparations were on course.
“The meeting of the NCC will be held before the Politburo meeting to get an update of what has been happening towards preparations for the congress,” he said.
“Things are generally on course, we had a problem with finances, but that has been sorted out.”
Zanu-PF requires US$8 million to successfully host the congress, scheduled for December 2 to 7.
A number of committees have been established to plan for the congress, while provincial co-ordinating committees have also been given various targets to meet in mobilising resources.
Preparations at the pen space between Rotten Row Magistrates’ Courts and the Exhibition Park have already begun, with workers clearing roads, while the main tent was being erected yesterday.
The Politburo meeting is expected to discuss issues affecting the party ahead of the congress. Cde Gumbo yesterday said the agenda had not yet been made public, but a number of issues affecting the party would most likely be up for discussion.
“The agenda of the meeting is not yet out, but we will obviously discuss preparations for the congress and obviously other issues affecting the party at the moment,” he said.
Some of the issues include the setting of guidelines for the Central Committee elections to be held in the provinces ahead of the congress.
