A 49-year-old suspected con artist has appeared in court charged with fraud involving US$1500.
Actor Nziramasanga of Kariba was granted $30 000 bail when he appeared before Harare magistrate, Yeukai Dzuda.
He will be back in court on October 28 for trial.
The complainant is Nyasha Tembedza, who is employed by Padsor Scaffolding and Construction in Graniteside, Harare.
Allegations are that sometime in August this year, Actor contacted Nyasha using the WhatsApp platform and misrepresented facts that he was Simba Makoni, a friend to Nyasha, who is based in Australia.
The said WhatsApp contact is said to have had Simba Makoni on the profile picture.
Further allegations are that Actor requested Nyasha to make a payment of US$1 500 on his behalf to a certain male adult, who is based in Zimbabwe in exchange of the equivalent of R25 000, which was payable in South Africa.
The R25 000 was supposed to be paid to South Africa Standard Bank to an account belonging to Paddington Tembedza.
Actor is said to have subsequently referred Nyasha to communicate with Actor, who was coming to collect the money.
On the same day, Actor went to Nyasha’s shop and produced his national identity card, and was given the money.
The court heard that on August 30, Nyasha found out that Actor did not make a transfer to South Africa, as per their agreement.
Nyasha is said to have tried to communicate with Actor, on WhatsApp, but was blocked.
The total amount, which was prejudiced, is US$1 500 and nothing was recovered
