Connor wanted FC Platinum job

since emerged that the FC Platinum leadership chose not to employ him, with one of the executive members describing the Northern Irishman as a “journalist and not a coach.”
Connor’s assistant at CAPS United, Lloyd Chitembwe, has now emerged as the favourite to replace Gumbo as the substantive coach at FC Platinum.
Sources claim the club’s leadership wants Norman Mapeza, who is also the favourite for the CAPS United directors to lead their team on a substantive basis, but Nomara’s commitments with Zifa, where he still has a contract, remain a concern.
FC Platinum fans badly want their leadership to appoint a substantive coach and they made that clear when the team was outclassed 0-3 at home by Monomotapa.
The fans believe caretaker coach, Tendai Chikuni, is still too raw to coach such an ambitious side.
“They must appoint a substantive coach who is very strict.
There is no unity in the camp and players have three camps namely Masvingo, Harare and Bulawayo camps,” said Sharon Zhou, a fan of the team.
“There is also an issue of tribalism and it still is having an effect on the team.
“Chikuni is good but he needs to work under a substantive coach, especially Lloyd (Chitembwe).”
Norman Gumbo, a committee member in the FC Platinum Supporters’ Club, said either Chitembwe or John Phiri should be employed as substantive coach.
“They must appoint either John Phiri or Chitembwe to take charge of the team with immediate effect,” he said.
“They must  also give the juniors the chance to play and Francis (Tizayi) should be given the nod ahead of Tafadzwa Dube.”
Martin Ncube, a vendor and staunch Kugona Kunenge Kudada fan in the town, said Chitembwe was the right man for the job.
Club spokesman, Phillimon Muvengwa, pleaded with the fans to be patient.
“Chikuni is an interim coach and we will appoint a substantive coach later because it is a process which cannot be done overnight,” said Chikuni. Coaches are professionals and we need time to do that.
I am appealing to the fans and the coaches to rally behind Chikuni and the players in the meantime.”
