Connor wants goals

Connor, worried by a host of missed opportunities in their opening game of this year’s campaign, is eager to see a change of fortunes for the Harare giants.
They fired blanks in a goalless draw against Shabanie Mine at Maglas last week despite creating chances.
CAPS United dominated the game — on a muddy pitch and at a ground where they struggle to win — but their finishing was disappointing.
But the Green Machine have since put the frustration behind them and shifted their attention to the Chicken Inn match, which has been moved to Gwanzura.
Their National Sports Stadium home ground hosts Pastor Emmanuel Makandiwa’s church service today and will not be ready to host the game.
Rufaro is unavailable because of Dynamos’ Champions League commitments on Sunday with Mozambican side, Liga Muculmana, expected to practice on the pitch tomorrow.
Connor yesterday threw his support behind the team and expressed confidence they will raise the gear after getting a crucial point at Shabanie. 
“I think we were fantastic in all areas except for the goals and as I have said before, this is work in progress. I expect the team to improve week in and week out,” said Connor.
“The two strikers (Clive Kawinga and Washington Pakamisa) did tremendously well on a difficult pitch at Maglas.
“We played well overall and I am asking for the same commitment from the players.
“I am very comfortable that we will get the goals that we need.
“We are trying to win this game at home because the sooner we get the first win that will take a lot of pressure from everyone.”
Chicken Inn coach, Adam Ndlovu, watched the game in Zvishavane on Sunday, barely 24-hours after his team was held to a disappointing 0-0 home draw by Gunners.
Connor is likely to keep faith in the same team that played in Zvishavane and revealed that the technical team was closely monitoring injuries to two of his key players – Tapiwa Kumbuyani and Tendai Samanja. 
“We are not taking Chicken Inn lightly. Obviously they are coming here with a game plan but we are going to be basic and stick to principle. I believe we will be able to get a positive result,” said Connor.
The Northern Irishman also shed light on the former TP Mazembe duo of Darryl Nyandoro and Chris Samakwere who are unable to take part in the domestic league at this stage as they are still waiting for reverse international clearances.
“The two players have been integral part of the squad in the pre-season.
“I really don’t want to comment much on that but as the team manager I am frustrated that we have two players that you know have the qualities but can’t use them.
“But I’m glad that the executive is engaged in negotiations for the players,” said Connor. 
The Premier Soccer League programme for the Easter weekend will begin this afternoon when Monomotapa host Harare City at Rufaro while Gunners and Motor Action clash at Lafarge. The match between newboys Quelaton and Luke Masomere’s Shabanie Mine at Luveve will complete today’s menu.
Monomotapa will be out to continue with their good form following the morale-boosting win over Buffaloes in their first game last week.
Team coach Taurai Mangwiro yesterday said they will not read a lot into the results from the previous game.
But he revealed they might not be able to use Brian Katsaruware and Timothy Pukunyani who are recovering from ankle injuries.
“We shouldn’t be carried away by last week’s result because it was just one of the games that we managed to get maximum points.
“We have a new game in our hands and I believe that any team that is in the Premier Soccer League is there on merit,” said Mangwiro.
