Vice-President Joice Mujuru and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai were in attendance yesterday when the motion was moved.
“Cognisant of the fact that Article 6 of the Global Political Agreement provides that there shall be set up a Select Committee of Parliament to spearhead the drafting of a people driven constitution of Zimbabwe.
“Acknowledging that the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders on 12th of April did set up a Committee known as the Constitution Parliamentary Select Committee.
“Realising that the said Committee did undertake and complete drafting the new Constitution of Zimbabwe as provided for in the terms of Article 6 of the GPA. Mindful of the fact that Article 6 of the GPA further provides that Copac must table the report and draft constitution of Zimbabwe before this honourable House.
“This House adopts the report on Copac on the progress and outcome of the constitution-making process and further takes note of the draft constitution of Zimbabwe tabled before it,” Mr Mwonzora said.
The House is expected to debate the report and draft today.
After the debate in Parliament Copac will embark on a month long publicity campaign to conscientise Zimbabweans on the provisions of the draft.
The principals are also expected to announce dates of the referendum within the month.
All the parties in the inclusive Government have since said they will support the draft constitution at the referendum.
The revised draft constitution was agreed by the principals last month after Zanu-PF rejected the original draft produced in July last year.
The party argued that the initial draft was contrary to what the people had said as contained in the National Statistical Report.
