Construction of the Chegutu Cement Plant by Chinese investor Shuntal Investment Private Limited is progressing well with production expected to start early next year.

The investor has diverse interests in mining and cement production throughout Zimbabwe. Zimpapers visited the plant site last week and witnessed construction progressing according to time frames.

“We are now at 50 percent of construction, and we are confident that cement production will commence early next year,” company general manager Mr Zhou Bin said.

“Construction timeline for the project is expected to be completed before the onset of the 2025-2026 rainy season to ensure uninterrupted production.”

The plant is expected to produce 800 000 tonnes of cement annually once operational.

At least 200 workers have been employed to build the plant, master control room, storage, warehouses, pre-homogenisation, clinker production and grinding and houses for employees.

Ms Ropafadzo Chafesuka, a truck driver at the site and Mr Anderson Mwedzi, said the plant has created jobs for youths in the area.
