Several roads that were under rehabilitation in and around Harare have been opened to traffic while plans are at an advanced stage for the construction of mini-interchanges or traffic circles at major intersections.
Government recently said major roads, bridges, and mini-interchanges will be rehabilitated or constructed.
On Monday, the Government opened to traffic a 3,8km of dual carriageway stretch and Mukuvisi River Bridge along Simon Mazorodze Road.
The rehabilitation of the Harare-Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway is also almost complete, with 490 kilometres out of the targeted 500km of the road now opened to traffic.
Early this week, 11th Avenue was also opened to traffic from Solomon Mujuru Drive (formerly Kirkman) to Warren Park Traffic Circle.
Last week, two other roads in Dzivarasekwa and Warren Park were also opened to traffic.
In an interview, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona said Government is not only focusing on city roads.
“Roads are an economic enabler and that is why we are rehabilitating these trunk roads. We are also coming to attend to roads in rural and residential areas.
“We will also gravitate towards the construction of mini-interchanges along our major intersections,” he said.
