Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities Daniel Garwe says the construction of rural clusters is now underway in Mutawatwa, Mashonaland East.

He said this while addressing a media conference in Harare.

The Minister said upon completion, the clusters will address housing needs for civil servants that are domiciled in rural areas and anyone who falls under the social housing structure.

Minister Garwe said his ministry now have a land bank for rural housing consisting of land given by Rural District Councils.

“Government instructed all rural district councils to provide land for rural housing through the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities.

“One of the departments under the ministry of National Housing is rural housing with a key mandate to provide modern houses in rural areas, houses that speak to the future in terms of modernity, sustainability and affordability.

“As phase one, we are building five blocks of flats with four storeys each in Mutawatawa. UMP RDC gave us land first and that enabled planning to start early in that area.

“The construction team moved on the ground in December last year and site establishment is 100 percent complete and actual construction has started and now on the foundation level,” said the Minister.

Minister Garwe also revealed that the rural districts that have so far given them land are Chipinge, Nyanga Mutawatawa Mutoko Mudzi and all rural districts in Bulawayo.

“The construction team moved on the ground in December and site establishment is 100 percent complete and area now on the foundation level” he added.
