When The Herald news crew visited the site located 10km along the Gweru/Mvuma highway, workers were busy with the installation of fittings, while Zanu-PF officials expressed confidence that the venue would be ready for the conference.
Zanu-PF Midlands deputy provincial chairman Cde Larry Mavhima who is also the chairman of the Midlands Development Association spearheading the construction of the venue, said he was satisfied with the progress made so far.
“As you can see the superstructure is complete and what we are doing now is putting the final touches on both the new building and the ones we have renovated. We are also landscaping the area and removing the construction debris so that the area becomes safe for our delegates . . . so in a nutshell as Midlands province we are ready to host the conference,” he said.
Cde Mavima said they had identified various hotels, lodges, schools and colleges that would be used to accommodate delegates attending the conference. A survey of the city’s hotels and lodges showed that most of them were fully booked from yesterday up to Sunday. A middle level manager at the City’s Fairmile Motel said they were expecting brisk business during the duration of the conference.
“We are fully booked until Sunday and expect huge business when the conference begins. This has come at an opportune time as we head into the festive season,” she said on request of anonymity.
