The controversial award winning hip-hop song “Tambisa” by Tricky J, Sinte and Kyd has got a video out. The video of the club song which has been topping local charts has gone viral with more than 15 000 views on social media on its day of release.
The video was produced by Mr Elders using Black Magic Cinema cameras which are the same cameras used by other regional and international artistes such as Wiz Kid, Ice Prince, Ciara, AKA, Missy Elliot and Brandy among others.
In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, lead singer – Tricky J real name Tonderai Mbewe said they produced the video following demand from fans.
“We do what is called Afro Trap music under the hip-hop genre. The song was now a hit especially in clubs as it is more to do with ladies that they should shake their bodies.
“We shot the video at the backyard of a house but with the help of our director it all came together. It was not of high budget as some would want to say but I am happy that all went according to plan and the video will also be played on local television station,” he said.
He said plans are underway to take the video to Channel O and Trace.
“A music analyst we have consulted said we have passed the standards to be on the international platform. I am in talks with some producers who are helping us to play the song on Channel O and Trace channel. This is a milestone for Zimbabwe as we are getting there. I am now aiming for those prestigious awards,” he said.
Asked about the moral aspect, Tricky J said there was nothing wrong with the song and video. “I don’t think the lyrics and dances portrayed in the video are against our culture. Africans love to dance and it is our culture to dance, shaking the body. However, if you check with international artistes they are making it big because of dance yet locally we want to shun such things then go crazy over the international productions,” he said.
Tricky J said was working on an album which will be released midyear. “The production of the album will be done in Zimbabwe and South Africa. I am working with GT Beats who have done songs Buffalo Souljah and Chopstix of Ice Prince fame,” he said. Tricky J has performed alongside South African artistes AKA and DJ Zinhle, Tambisa’s song won the Zim hip-hop 2014, People Choice Award and got nominated for Song of the Year .
