A MAN from Makokoba suburb in Bulawayo allegedly stole 12 Colgate toothpaste tubes from a storeroom at Tredgold Building while doing community service for another theft charge, a court heard yesterday.Mncedisi Mhlophe, 19, allegedly stole the tooth- paste and hid the tubes in a dustbin.
He was caught by Richard Mandere, 28, who is employed at the Deeds and Intellectual Properties at Tredgold Building which houses the Bulawayo magistrate court.
Mhlophe appeared before provincial magistrate Sibongile Msipa facing a theft charge.
He pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody to today.
Prosecuting, Taurai Hondoyemoto told the court that on November 17, Mhlophe commenced community service in four offices at Tredgold Magistrate court.
“On December 1 at around 9.30AM Mhlophe was seen by Mandere carrying 12 tubes of 100ml Colgate toothpaste in a dustbin,” said Hondoyemoto.
The court heard that Mandere confronted Mhlophe about the toothpaste and he confessed that he stole five bottles of 410g Koo baked beans, two bottles of sunlight liquid and 40 tubes of 100ml Colgate toothpaste on different dates.
An Icom radio charger and 12 tubes of 100ml Colgate toothpaste were recovered from Mhlophe.
The value of the stolen items was $93 and property valued at $22 was recovered.
