Coop bosses meet

Nyore Madzianike Manicaland Bureau
REPRESENTATIVES of cooperatives drawn from various African countries are expected to gather for a week-long continental cooperatives conference slated for next month in Harare.

The conference will see delegates visit some of the best local housing and manufacturing projects in the capital and Mashonaland Central.

Various cooperatives from Manicaland are expected to participate during the conference, which will run from May 28 to June 1.

Zimbabwe National Association of Housing Cooperatives (ZINAHCO) in conjunction with the mother body — Zimbabwe National Cooperative Federation (ZNCF) —  are organising the event.

ZINAHCO president Mr Mike Duru said leaders, commissioners and registrars of cooperatives drawn from African countries are expected to attend the conference to be held at a hotel in Harare.

“The conference will see delegates visit various projects that includes best housing and manufacturing projects,” he said.

“We are planning to visit a successful housing project in Caledonia and a manufacturing project in Mbare. The delegates will also visit Negomo Agricultural Cooperative in Mashonaland Central.”

Mr Duru said all cooperatives from across the country were invited to the conference where business ideas would be shared, coupled with training in various disciplines.

“This is a business platform where business ideas on how to run cooperatives and training would be done by experts,” he said. “Youths are also welcome to get ideas and expertise on cooperatives.

“Members will benefit a lot as they would share best practices, compare challenges and exchange success stories. They will also borrow acceptable systems for improving their work.”

Mr Duru said the conference will also seek to open business opportunities which is in line with President Mnangagwa’s “Zimbabwe is open for business” mantra.
