Cop disappears with ZRP vehicle

A non commissioned police officer unlawfully acquired his boss’ vehicle and disappeared on Wednesday.

Assistant Inspector Simbarashe Mandizvidza, who is based at Police General Headqaurters (PGHQ), was reported to have approached Officer in charge of police records requesting keys for a Ford Ranger single cab with police colours, registration (ZRP1033R) indicating that he was assigned by a Human Resources Commissioner to carry out an unspecified task.

At around 1pm, Ass-Insp Mandizvidza did not avail himself and when he was called on his mobile number he claimed that he was busy without disclosing his location and the task he was working on.

At around 6pm, the Officer in charge called Ass-Insp Mandizvidza’s cellphone number and it was no longer reachable.

The Officer in charge advised his superiors and it was discovered that Ass-Insp Mandizvidza had lied that he had been assigned a task.

The ZRP Ford Ranger and Ass-Insp Mandizvidza’s whereabouts could not be established.

Efforts to locate him at Chikurubi Support Unit Camp and Hatfield Police Camp, where they suspected him to be hiding, were fruitless.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi could not be reached for comment.

However, H-Metro is reliably informed that the case was reported at Fife Avenue base under RRB 6464268.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer, Superintendent Mutsvangwa rescued a truck driver, Bernard Zinyakatira, 39, who had fallen prey to two bogus police officers along Bulawayo Road on Wednesday night.

Supt Mutsvangwa, who is based at PGHQ , stopped his vehicle to find out what Bernard and the two bogus police officers were doing.

One of the suspects fled and Supt Mutsvangwa managed to arrest Albert Moyo, 30, for car theft.

Bernard had offered Albert and his accomplice transport when they turned against him along the way.

The truck was loaded with barn from Aspindale to Chegutu.
