adminillegal immigrants at Beitbridge Border Post have been fined US$150 each.
The two are Salatiel Marima and Amos Bvunzawabaya (29).
The duo denied the charges when they appeared before magistrate Mr Carrington Karidzagundi.
He, however, convicted them due to overwhelming evidence.
In default of payment, the two risk imprisonment for 60 days.
Prosecutor Mr Reasons Mutimba told the court that on July 30 this year, the duo connived to waylay and extort money from undocumented travellers who intended to cross into South Africa.
Marima, using his police identity card, went to the border post with his accomplice where they intercepted travellers and demanded money.
The duo waylaid three people with children trying to cross illegally into South Africa and demanded R50 to allow them passage into South Africa.
However, the parents failed to raise the R50 and offered R20 for each child and went away.
The policeman and his colleague were arrested after receiving the money.
Bvunzawabaya was found in possession of R60.
Meanwhile, the same magistrate fined a South African US$300 for contravening a Section of the Parks and Wildlife Act.
He was found in possession of a crocodile skin at the border post on his way to South Africa.
The skin is valued at US$500.
Gottlieb Rudolph Oosthuizen (45) of Polokwane was convicted on his own plea of guilty.
It was the State’s case that between August 9 and 14, Oosthuizen was hired by some people at Manyuchi Dam to hunt and kill a troublesome crocodile.
He accomplished the venture and skinned the crocodile.
He took the skin and put it in his car which was towing a boat.
He was arrested by detectives from the Border Control Unit.
Oosthuizen was subsequently arrested and the crocodile skin was forfeited to the State.
