Copper cables thieves nabbed

Indications are that the cables were stolen from Hwange Colliery Company and Zimbabwe Power Company.

Police spokesperson for Matabeleland North Inspector Billie Dube confirmed the arrest of Tendai Nyakufaingwa (36) of Lwendulu, Alison Mangena (35) of C23 Cinderella and Nqobizitha Ndlovu (33) of A87 Makwika, all in Hwange.

Insp Dube said on Friday last week police received information that Nyakufaingwa was keeping copper cables and rods at his place of residence.

“Police raided the suspect’s house at about 9pm last Friday and about 11kg of copper cables and rods were recovered. The suspect was then arrested.

“Upon further questioning, Nyaku-faingwa led detectives to a house at Whitbank Road where a further 151kg were recovered.

“He implicated Mangena and Ndlovu who were later arrested.”

Insp Dube said the trio admitted that they were illegally dealing in copper.

“Mangena admitted that he was getting copper cables and rods from HCCL and Zesa Power Station which he later sold to Ndlovu. Ndlovu would then connive with Nyakufaingwa to look for a market,” he said.

The police spokesperson said the three suspects were being detained at Hwange Police Station and are expected to appear in court soon.

Meanwhile, two workers from Paper Grinder, a construction company in the coal mining town, have been arrested for allegedly stealing 10 window panes and eight door frames from their employer.

Insp Dube said the two workers were being charged with unlawful entry.

“Police received a report of unlawful entry and attended to the scene. Investigations revealed that the suspects used duplicate keys to gain entry. Further investigations led to the arrest of two employees who confessed that they broke into the premises. Ten window panes and four door frames were recovered,” said Insp Dube.
