Copper thief nabbed

Police in Harare have arrested a suspected copper cable thief after a tip-off.

Malvern Mushawatu was apprehended by the police last week after attempting to run away from the crime scene, where he and his colleagues were offloading the cables from a lorry.

According to the ZRP’s updates on microblogging site Twitter:  “The police pounced on the suspects who fled the scene, but Malvern Mushawatu (40) was apprehended.

“A search was conducted and bundles of copper (70kg), stashed in sacks, were recovered.

“The matter came to light after a tip-off to the police, who proceeded to the scene.”

The police said investigations were still ongoing.

Meanwhile, police in Bulawayo have arrested a 23-year-old man for unlawful entry and allegedly stealing several computer accessories at Bulawayo Polytechnic.

Fortune Vundla was arrested at the college by security guards.

A desktop computer, laptop, camera and several computer accessories were recovered.

Vundla’s two accomplices are said to have fled the scene in an unidentified Honda Fit vehicle.
