AUTHORITIES at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital have commended female police officers who donated baby blankets and sanitary pads to patients in the paediatric unit.
The officers, led by Chief Superintendent in charge-of-crime for the Mbare district, Sehlulekile Mhungu, arrived at the hospital dressed in African attire.
Chief Superintendent Mhungu said the donation was part of the work of the ZRP Women Network to mark Africa Day and support vulnerable babies during the winter season.
“We are mothers before our police duties and we saw it prudent to extend a warm hand to our children in hospital.
“Our children are our inheritance and our African language is our pride,” she said.
Hospital matron, Eugan Nhakura, received the donation, praising the police for community responsibility.
“When the ZRP Mbare district Women Network chairperson came to deliver their donation message, some of our staff members were quick to suspect that she had come for an arrest.
“We were not used to receiving donations from police officers.
“We want to thank the police commanders for this gesture. We feel comforted, encouraged and inspired.”
After the handover, medical staff and police officers joined hands in prayer, sang hymns and songs of praise as they belatedly celebrated Africa Day.
