Goats for freedom!
Two police officers based in Lupane are behind bars after they allegedly demanded goats from a villager who had kept a stray donkey at his homestead.
Godfrey Mudombiro (41) and Douglas Dlamini (42) got a tip-off from a villager that Lungile Ncube (58) who resides at Sibangani village 2 in Lupane kept a stray donkey that she inherited from her late parents who died in 2010.
The stray donkey was not reported to the police and five years down the line a fellow villager snitched on Ncube.
The two police officers then went to the complainant and demanded to see the stray donkey.
Ncube showed them the donkey in question and told them that she inherited it from her late parents.
However, the police officers had already hatched a plan to make her a?paya? for it.
To evade arrest she was meant to give them $100 but she told them she had no cash. Instead, she could offer them a goat.
They insisted on their demand and she finally gave them three goats.
They slaughtered one of the goats and sold the meat to a local restaurant and shared the two goats.
Each goat was valued at $30.
The matter came to light on 04 April 2016 after Ncube reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the pair.
The two appeared before resident magistrate Ndumo Masuku facing extortion charges.
They pleaded not guilty. Masuku remanded the pair in custody to 29 April for continuation of trial.
