Popular local cartoon strip The BYO Show is one of the countrya��s most followed online shows, as local content producers continue the race to win the hearts of viewers on social media platforms. A�
The BYO Show came seventh in the list compiled by Zimbabwean technology website Techzim, trailing behind P.O. Box Reloaded, Baba Tencen, Bustop TV, Prosper the Comic Pastor, Zambezi News and Wershuta.
The popularity of the shows was measured by an aggregation of the total views their videos receive on Facebook and YouTube.
Two years after the BYO Showa��s cast of humorous characters burst onto the scene with their unique brand of social commentary that tackles hot topical issues in a light hearted manner, the show has become a powerhouse.
While the cartoon strip is still the main attraction, the show has branched out to various initiatives that include The Bulawayo Show related merchandise and a partnership with Zvishavane based new radio station, YAFM.
The BYO Show also had the fourth most followed Facebook page in the country, with over 17 000 followers and 1 300 YouTube subscribers. The showa��s videos, which are mostly released on a weekly basis, attract an average of 8 000 views per video.
Last week the show launched its premium content channel on YouTube, which will see one season of the show sold to viewers for $5. The first season, titled Sigwadi, Mampara Iplan-Exactly will comprise 13 episodes.
