Corrupt police officers put on notice

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Nkulumane District has declared zero tolerance for corruption, rudeness and discrimination, warning that any officer found wanting will face decisive action.

Speaking at the launch of the district’s Client Service Charter at Pumula North Shopping Centre on Thursday, acting Officer Commanding the district Superintendent Sifiso Siziba reminded police officers that the uniform they wear is a symbol of trust, a promise made to the public, a promise that they will be protected, respected, and served and every time they put on the uniform, they were renewing that promise.

“Let us not break it. Corruption is not accepted. Rudeness is not accepted. Discrimination of any kind — whether based on gender, political affiliation, economic standing, religion or neighbourhood — is not acceptable. The law applies to everyone equally, and we must apply it equally,” said Supt Siziba.

He called on members of the public to report any acts of misconduct by police officers, regardless of rank, assuring that internal disciplinary measures will be executed decisively by the system.

Equally, said Supt Siziba, while misconduct will be punished, excellence and professionalism among officers will be recognised and rewarded and in the same vain, the public must also bring to the attention of police commanders, those officers who would have done well in the execution of their duties.

“We promote on merit, reward performance and celebrate integrity. Officers who go above and beyond in serving the community will be recognised,” said Supt Siziba.

Supt Siziba described the launch of the Client Service Charter as a turning point for policing in the district.

“Today is not just a ceremonial occasion, it is a line in the sand. On one side is what has been, and on the other is what must be,” he said, while acknowledging past shortcomings, including instances of misconduct and inefficiency, and appealed for renewed public trust.

“We recognise that we have not always been the police service the community deserves. There have been failures and we do not shy away from that truth. We ask for your forgiveness and your trust, not as a blank cheque, but as a partnership built one interaction at a time,” said Supt Siziba.

He said the organization is now committed to a new standard anchored on accountability and service.

“The era of excuses is over. We choose duty over laziness, honesty over corruption, service over selfishness and excellence over mediocrity. Hold us to these standards — you have every right to. The promise has been made, and delivery is not optional,” said Supt Siziba.
