THE Zimbabwe Volleyball Association has named a 43-member team which will represent the country at the Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa ball games. The ball games to be hosted by Bulawayo in August will see both boys and girls’ national teams from 12 different countries in Southern Africa battle for honours in football, basketball, netball, tennis, rugby and volleyball.

The volleyball team selection was done by two Nash provincial heads in-charge, coaches, and also one representative from the ZVA during the 5th edition of the Nash Under-17 Volleyball Championship which was held at Luveve High School last week.

Perpetua Masarira was impressed with the overall performance by all teams during last week’s Championships won by Churchill Boys High from Harare, and was equally confident that the representative side will raise the national flag high at the regional games.

Mberengwa’s Mnene High also emerged victorious in the girls’ section at the Luveve event.
“The standard of play has improved as witnessed at the Championships and if the same kind of play is to be maintained, then our team will be victorious during the Cosassa games,” said Masarira.

From Bulawayo province only two Luveve High School’s players, Nyaradzi Sibanda and Terrence Ncube made the grade following brilliant individual performances at the provincial championships.

Chibi High dominates the girls’ team with five players while Churchill has the highest number of players called up for national duty.
Stanslous Muguto will be the boy’s team head coach while the girls will be under the guidance of Edith Zimbizi. The teams are expected to troop into camp in Bulawayo during the first week of August.
