Council acts on traffic lights vandalism

Harare City Council has entered into a partnership with businesses to protect traffic lights, which are being vandalised by criminals.

This has left a considerable part of the city in the dark.

Over the years, motorists have expressed concerns about faulty traffic lights, at different intersections, across the city, which have often resulted in accidents.

Street lighting continues to get worse and most intersections are now manned by traffic police officers.

However, some motorists have been disregarding the road traffic rules, causing major traffic jams

In an interview with H-Metro yesterday, Engineer Calvin Chigariro said they were facing a serious problem of vandalism.

“We are experiencing a serious problem across the city as thieves are targeting our transformers, which have less voltage,” he said.
