HARARE City Council’s acting revenue manager, Alfred Guni, has said residents with outstanding bills will face interest charges.
Guni said the measure will encourage residents to pay their bills promptly to avoid future inconveniences.
He announced plans to intensify blacklisting of delinquent ratepayers, whose payments have affected the council’s ability to provide essential services and maintain its infrastructure. Guni explained that some residents have raised concerns over their ever-increasing bills, and attributed the changes to movements in exchange rates.
“We have seriously considered starting charging interest on outstanding bills and residents should not be caught unaware.
“They must clear their bills to avoid unnecessary inconveniences. Therefore, they need to visit their district offices or our virtual platforms and settle their financial obligations.
“If residents see any increase or changes in their monthly bills, it is correctly informed by the movement in exchange rates,” said Guni.
