A CITY of Harare employee was dragged to court on Tuesday charged with fraud and forgery.

The suspect, Melody Sevenzai, 41, was not asked to plead when she appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

The complainant is Priscilla Mhlakaza of Domboshava.

Allegations are that in July, Mhlakaza wanted to transfer Stand number 337 Guilford Estate to Brookview Trust, who had bought the stand.

The court heard that Mhlakaza intended to make a payment of ZWL$425 152 072 for endowment assessment at the City Council.

As a result, she approached Sevenzai, who was a custodian of blank City of Harare receipts.

In the same month, Sevenzai allegedly lied to the City of Harare that she had used a receipt number, 13131554, yet she had stolen the blank receipt.

She was allegegly working together with Frank Jacob, Kudzai Mazanza, Leon Maroero, Brian Ticky and Tapiwa Gona, who have already been remanded out of custody.

Sevenzai allegedly lied to Mhlakaza that a payment of ZWL$425 152 072 had been made to City of Harare while knowing it was a fake receipt.
