Council installs 1200 smart meters

Harare City Council (HCC) has replaced 1 200 conventional water meters in Sunningdale and new Marimba suburbs.
At least 60 percent of the water meters in Harare are stuck and dysfunctional and HCC is replacing them with smart meters.

In an interview with The Herald on Thursday, the city’s spokesperson Mr Michael Chideme said this was to ensure that all the water supplied to the two suburbs was accounted for.

“We are replacing 1200 conventional water meters in Sunningdale and 300 in new Marimba,” he said
“The reason is, these two areas are in what are called district metered areas. We have installed bulk meters in Sunningdale and new Marimba so we want to ensure that what goes into the two areas is accounted for through functional meters.”
