CITY of Harare Glenview District yesterday lost more than US$12 000 accrued for seven days to armed robbers.
However, observations made indicated that the robbers could have used a duplicate key to enter the main door of the District Offices block where a safe containing US$12 774 and ZIG 5110 was.
Five armed robbers were reported to have gained entry at around 2am and one of them pointed a gun-like object and pointed to a security guard manning the premises and ordered him to remain silent.
He was tied with electric cables, and the robbers proceeded to the offices where they cut off hinges of the safe using a grinder.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case.
“Police are investigating an armed robbery at a Council office in Glenview. They went on to blast a safe containing cash and went away.
“Investigations are continuing,” said Insp Chakanza.
