The City of Harare, in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government and National Housing and Geo Pomona Waste Management, launched Chenesa Harare Phase 3 on Monday as part of efforts to clear dumpsites and restore cleanliness across the capital city.
Speaking at the launch at Tichagarika Shops in Glen View, Mayor Jacob Mafume said he is happy with the partnership and hoped for the project’s success.
“This initiative marks an important step in our mission to restore cleanliness in Harare. We are working hand in hand with Geo Pomona Waste Management (Pvt) Ltd to clear dumpsites across the city.
“This partnership is vital in ensuring that garbage is properly handled.”
Mayor Mafume said stakeholders need to unite to ensure efficient waste management.
“Garbage does not discriminate by political affiliation. It affects all of us equally, and we can only maintain cleanliness and ensure a better living environment for all citizens by working together,” he said.
The collaboration also emphasises waste segregation and recycling to reduce waste build-up.
Ward 30’s Councillor Charles Chidagu said residents must adopt sustainable waste management practices, including sorting waste at the source.
“We urge residents and business owners to consider sorting their waste and engage in recycling initiatives to reduce illegal dumpsites,” he said.
Chenesa Harare Phase 3 highlights the vital role of public-private partnerships in addressing urban challenges.
