Council reduces water shedding

According to the new schedule, in areas which include Nkulumane, Emganwini, Nketa, Pumula, Sizinda, Tshabalala, Bellevue, Newton West, Southwold, West Somerton, Esigodini, Imbizo Barracks, Mbalabala Barracks, Mzinyathini Irrigation Scheme and all outside areas except mines, water will be closed on Monday at 7.30am and will be opened on Wednesday morning.

The pipes will be closed again on Friday and opened on Saturday. The schedule also applies to all eastern suburbs.

For areas, which include Cowdray Park, Luveve, Magwegwe, Njube, Entumbane, Emakhandeni, Barbourfields, Mzilikazi, Nguboyenja, Mpopoma, Makokoba Lobengula, Mabutweni, Iminyela, Pelandaba and Matshobane water will be closed on Tuesdays and opened on Thursdays. It will be closed again on Saturdays and opened on Sundays.

The industries and the Central Business District are exempt from the water shedding schedule, while everyone is exempt on Sundays.

The city council introduced water shedding in all suburbs in July last year, in a bid to conserve the limited supplies in the city’s supply dams.
