MUTARE City Council says it is focusing on improving revenue collection next year and will give its departments monthly targets.
Council spokesperson Mr Spren Mtiwi told The Herald that they have come up with a roadmap that will guide departments in their operations.
“In 2019 we are focusing mainly on revenue collection efficiency as council seeks to increase its revenue base.
“With that in mind, we have set monthly targets for our departments. We have departments like the chamber secretary, finance, engineering, housing and health that we expect to generate revenue.
“We have a roadmap that govern how these departments work for them to achieve the set targets and meet the financial obligations,” he said.
Mr Mutiwi said council had also put in place mechanisms for efficient revenue collection.
He said council had set up offices in Hobhouse and Dangamvura high density areas to make it easy for residents to pay rates.
“I am sure these office will start working sometime in early next year. Once we manage to increase our revenue base, it means council will also improve its service provision.
“Our target is to improve on service delivery which I can safely say has gone a notch up after acquiring utility and service vehicles in 2018,” he said.
Mr Mtiwi said council was striving to lure investors.
“Once we have investors, it means we will also earn revenue through payments for different services rendered to them by the council. In future we are also looking forward to initiate some income generating projects,” he said.
