Speaking to The Herald yesterday, Mr Masunda said the city was in consultation with various stakeholders before deploying their personnel to the ranks.
“We are more than prepared to deploy our personnel from the city’s treasury department, ably assisted by details from the municipal police, to man and collect the requisite fees from all our terminuses together with the ancillary facilities within the CBD as well as the whole of the greater Harare.”
He said council would engage bona fide interest groups after restoration of law and order in the city.
“We shall consult bona fide interest groups representing widows, pensioners, war veterans, disabled persons and youths with a view to prioritising their needs, not only vending from designated sites, but also maintenance of ablution facilities in and around our termini,” he said. Mayor Masunda paid tribute to the ZRP and city officials for restoring order in the city.
Meanwhile, the Urban Commuter Operators of Zimbabwe yesterday met representatives from various transport associations to map the way forward.
UCOZ spokesperson Mr Ngoni Katsvairo said operators resolved to erect banners at city ranks to combat touting. “We are urging all operators to put banners on their vehicles that illustrate their destinations.”
