Acting town clerk Mr Fungai Mbetsa announced the tender through a Press advert yesterday.
“Notice is hereby given, in terms . . . of the Urban Councils Act, that Chi tungwiza Municipality is inviting ten ders from interested bidders for the purchase of the following motor vehi cles from the Municipality of Chitung wiza,” he said.
The vehicles were bought for nearly US$700 000 as part of management perks without council approval.
The vehicles were also bought at a time the council was failing to pay salaries and to deliver basic services to residents.
The cars were bought using money meant for the servicing of the Nyatsime housing estate.
To go under the hammer is the Toy ota Land Cruiser VX V8 (which was used by fired town clerk Mr Godfrey Tanyanyiwa), Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (which was used by Dr Micah Simoyi) and three Toyota Fortuners assigned to former chamber secretary Ms Omega Mugumbate, former direc tor of housing and community services
Ms Jemina Gumbo and director of urban planning services Mr Conrad Muchesa.
The vehicles can be viewed at council head office in Zengeza 4. Money raised from the sale of the cars will be used to buy new Madza twin cabs and an Isuzu truck for the new managers under recruitment. Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Minister Ignatius
