An  MDC-T Harare councillor is on the run after he allegedly attempted to sodomise a Nyaradzo Bus driver he was sharing a room with in a house boat in Kariba on Saturday.
Budiriro Ward 33 Councillor Oddrey Sydney Chirombe is alleged to have fled Kariba where he was attending a team building workshop with other councillors after learning that police were waiting to pounce on him.

Police chief spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the incident adding that Chirombe was yet to be arrested.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police would like to confirm that an indecent assault report has been received at ZRP Kariba in which MDC-T party’s Harare Budiriro Ward 33 is suspected to have indecently assaulted a bus driver he was sharing a room with in Kariba.

“Police are investigating the circumstances in which Oddrey Chirombe is alleged to have indecently assaulted Richard Nyakabawu, while Harare councillors were on a workshop retreat in Kariba from February 21-23, 2014.”

Sources alleged that at around 2am on Saturday, Chirombe and the driver in question where in their boat room when he gently tapped the driver on his chest before leaving the room for a few minutes.

Upon his return he allegedly pounced on the driver and attempted to sodomise him.
The driver, it is alleged, resisted and an altercation ensued between the pair on the deck.

The driver allegedly assaulted a naked Chirombe before other councillors went to inquire on hearing noise.
One of the councillors said after he heard the noise he went up the boat to investigate and he saw a naked Chirombe lying down with the bus driver threatening to assault him further “for trying to make him a woman”.

“The bus driver was threatening to beat up Chirombe whom he accused of trying to sodomise him in their room.
“He said he woke up after Chirombe, who was almost naked, got on top of him in a room with twin beds,” he said.
Other councillors restrained the angry driver from further assaulting Chirombe.

Another councillor said Chirombe disappeared after learning that someone had phoned the police.
“We do not know where he went after the incident but a fellow councillor drove his vehicle to Harare. Maybe he was afraid that police would catch up with him.”

Harare Mayor Bernard Manyenyeni, who also attended the team building workshop, confirmed that such allegations were made in the house boat against Chirombe.

“The police are handling the matter. I am not in a position to comment on the matter now until police conclude their investigations,” he said.

Sources close to the matter said Chirombe was still at large and the matter has since been transferred to Harare.
