Councillors warned

abuse of office.
Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Minister Ignatius Chombo confirmed yesterday that he read the “Riot Act” in Kadoma and gave the councillors the last chance to prove themselves. He was not impressed by the rowdy behaviour of councillors who do not respect Mayor Peter Matambo.

Sources at the meeting said Minister Chombo told the officials to give councillors correct information to help them make sound decisions. Clr Matambo confirmed the meeting describing it as very fruitful. He said “rowdy councillors” were warned against their behaviour. Minister Chombo advised that council leases out underperforming beer outlets and urged councillors to meet with residents to urge them to pay debts and allow the city to deliver services.

Following the meeting, council would meet soon to approve Government-sanctioned salaries and allowances for senior managers. He also re-appointed the resuscitation team that was tasked to revamp the management of the city after noticing that when the team left, the situation deteriorated. Kadoma councillors and management have crossed paths with Minister Chombo on several occasions over corruption and mismanagement of council affairs.
